Foot protection service workshop: Shared Practice event, Diabetes UK
Mon 3 July 2017, 10:00 – 16:30 BST
Foot protection service workshop
Diabetes UK is organising an event for healthcare professionals and commissioners, to discuss how best to organise and improve local foot protection services for people with diabetes. Guidance recommends that those at moderate or high risk should see a foot protection service to assess their feet and lower limbs, as well as agreeing a treatment plan based on their needs.
New research has suggested that £1 in every £140 the NHS spends is on footcare for people with diabetes. In any given week around 60-75,000 people with diabetes have an ulcer and there are significant, often hidden costs, to treating ulcers.
This event aims to air and share initiatives to promote foot protection for people with diabetes, preventing ulcers and ultimately amputations.Following the event Diabetes UK will write up and promote examples of good practice, to support other areas to learn and develop their services.
The event is aimed at health professionals such as diabetologists, podiatrists, diabetes specialist nurses, CCG clinical leads, all members of diabetes foot networks or diabetes clinical networks and people with diabetes.
