Description

As part of our 'For Learning. For Life' series we will be welcoming to the bookshop Nicholas Orme, who will be discussing his new book 'The History of England's Cathedrals'.

England’s sixty or so Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals are among its most iconic buildings and attract thousands of worshippers and visitors every year. Yet though much has been written about their architecture, there is no complete guide to their history and activities. This book provides the first rounded account of the whole of their 1700 years from Roman times to the present day.

Nicholas Orme is a leading English historian: the author of nearly thirty books on a notably wide range of topics including religion, childhood, schools, hospitals, social history, literature, and sport. He is an emeritus professor of history of Exeter University and has been elected as a corresponding fellow of the Medieval Academy of America.
