Event description
A screening and discussion of For Sama, the intimate, unforgettable and award-winning portrait of a young woman's life during the Syrian War

About this Event

Waad al-Kateab is a Syrian journalist who filmed everything around her for five years, from the Aleppo uprisings to the siege imposed by Assad. The resulting documentary, For Sama, is a journey through the parts of war that are often unseen: from falling in love to the daily ordinary and heroic acts of resistance.

For Sama is the winner of over 50 awards including:

  • Best Documentary, BAFTA 2020
  • Best Documentary, Cannes Film Festival 2019
  • Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary, SXSW Film Festival 2019

After the screening, stay for a brief discussion with journalist and Impact Hub Berlin member, Caitlin Chandler and Hadi Al Khatib, founder of the Berlin-based Syrian Archive, an organisation that documents and investigates human rights violations in Syria through open source technology so that the world has both an archive as well as evidence to support justice, truth and reconciliation efforts.

This event is free and open to all. We ask that guests consider making a donation either at the event or online to support the work of Syrian medics who continue to save lives in Idlib and other regions through the film's campaign.
