Description

Join us for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of For Then, For Now, Forever, the ground-breaking, free exhibition that tells the story of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s first 100 years.

From its foundation on 21 May 1917 while the First World War still raged, to the expansion of its mission to include those who died in the Second World War, right through to today, this unique organisation has continued to ensure the lasting remembrance of the war dead.

This free talk, hosted by exhibition curator Andrew Fetherston, takes a closer look at the exhibition and the processes involved in creating it. We will see some of the items on display in more detail, explaining their importance and what they can tell us about the CWGC and its history.

Delving into the CWGC's archive, we will also look at objects and stories from the collection that didn't make it into the final exhibition, and explain the challenges and decisions that needed to be considered throughout all stages of the project.

Andrew Fetherston is Archivist at the CWGC.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission: one organisation, 1.7 million stories.
