‘For Then, For Now, Forever’ – the making of the CWGC Centenary Exhibition
Wed 24 May 2017, 15:00 – 16:00 BST
The CWGC Centenary Exhibition tells the story of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s first 100 years. From its foundation in 1917 during the First World War, to the extension of its task to include those who died in the Second World War, right through to the present day, the exhibition provides an insight in to the organisation and the individuals who helped create and shape it.
Hosted by Andrew Fetherston, CWGC Archivist and curator of the exhibition, this talk will take a closer look at the exhibition and the processes involved in creating it. We will look in more detail at some of the items on display, explaining their importance and what they can tell us about the Commission and its history. Delving in to the Commission’s archive, we will also look at some other objects and stories from the collection which did not make it into the final exhibition, and explain the challenges and decisions which needed to be considered throughout all stages of the exhibition project.
