Usual feedback - "Wow.... I didn't realise how much I needed that!"

What is Forest Bathing?

It's a deeply calm and relaxing, slow, silent and immersive nature experience using the five senses and mindfulness. It comes from Japan where it's called Shinrin Yoko, which means ‘to be under the canopy of the trees for health and wellbeing’.

What are the benefits of Forest Bathing?

The list is endless, but here are a few:

  • boosted immunity
  • calmer nervous system
  • regulated blood pressure and heart rate
  • enhanced cognition - memory, focus and attention etc
  • increased positive emotions and a lifted mood
  • reduced stress and anxiety
  • enhanced feelings of connection
  • better sleep
  • increased creativity, empathy, free-thinking and pleasure
  • improved ADHD symptoms

Forest Bathing is backed by science, so much so that some countries prescribe it as an alternative to conventional medicine... however ONLY with positive side-effects!

What happens in a Forest Bathing session?

No bathing! However we do bathe our senses in the forest environment. I start with an introduction, then we move into mindfulness practices using the five senses. We have sharing circles, a longer 'Treelaxation' mediation, and close with a tea ceremony.

Frequently asked questions

What do I wear?

Long trousers tucked into socks and long sleeved tops. Extra layers as the micro-climate of the woods is much cooler, and getting cold will distract you. Close-toed footwear with suitable ankle support and grip.

What do I bring?

Water. Extra layers. Something to lie down on the forest floor on - ideally a waterproof backed picnic blanket or yoga mat. A backpack so your hands are free.

Will we be walking far?

No. We use a relatively small area of woods and we will be walking very slowly, and stopping frequently. Forest bathing is slow, quiet and relaxing.

Do I have to lie down on the forest floor?

No. Everything is an invitation. Some people remain standing, some sit down and lean against a tree, some choose to lie on the forest floor (on a blanket or mat).

Can I bring a dog?

No, because they distract the group. If you have a dog for health or therapy reasons, please contact me to discuss.

Can children attend?

Ideally not, unless they are able to remain quiet for the duration of the forest bathing (including not talking to you, which will distract the group).

Are there any risks involved?

The uneven forest floor, things to trip over or slide in, low hanging branches, other users of the woods - bikes, people and dogs (although my sessions are in private woodland) and ticks, which is why you need to wear suitable clothing.

Does forest bathing happen in all weather?

No. I will cancel the session and fully refund you or transfer your payment to another event (whichever you prefer), if it is torrential rain, strong winds, storms or heavy snowfall. Forest Bathing does happen in regular rain and snow, which can really enhance the session.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes. Please don't wear strong smelling lotions (suncream, insect repellent, hand sanitiser, perfume etc) as they will overpower the natural smells in the woods, and some people are more sensitive to smell than others, so it could impact other peoples experience as well.

What are your Ts & Cs?

You will be fully reimbursed up to two weeks before the event. Within two weeks, I will offer you a place on another date, but I will not reimburse you. If I have to cancel due to weather, you will be reimbursed or you can move to another date. You'll receive Ts&Cs when you book.

Are there toilets on site?

Yes.
