Event description

Description

The Page & Rooting and Fruiting present a talk by Tomas Remiarz, someone who has designed, planted, maintained Forest Gardens across UK and Europe. He shares much of his learning through courses on Forest Gardening and Permaculture, and his recently published book, Forest Gardening in Practice. The book is the first in-depth review of forest gardening with living, best practice examples. It is all about how they do (and sometimes don't) work, and in the people who are working in and with them, and highlights the four core skills of forest gardeners: ecology, horticulture, design, cooperation.

Tomas will be in The Page at 6:30pm to share a informal chat and book signing of his book, which you can buy on the day. The book costs £25.

The talk will start around 7pm and will last around 45-60 mins, with lots of time for questions and discussion afterwards.

Topics covered include:

What is a forest garden?

Inspiring examples of forest gardens in the UK, Europe and North America

Home gardens

Community gardens and public spaces

Commercial forest gardens

5 tips to get started

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and coffee available.

Day-Time Workshop with Tomas Remiarz and Beth Morgan, Calderdale Royal Hospital

We will be running a daytime workshop and discussion at The Secret Garden, Calderdale Royal Hospital's Staff Wellbeing Forest Garden. This will examine the design work undertaken between Tomas and Beth Morgan, Rooting and Fruiting and how this has been implement, with critique from Tomas and shared discussion on how to progress the garden further. The hospital currently provides funding to continue the hospital until September 2018, and Beth delivers once a month volunteer work on site.

If you want to know more about designing and planting an actual forest garden, or if you are keen to see wellbeing garden developments within a hospital setting with a view to volunteering, you might be interested in this workshop. Tickets are £5 and are limited to 5 people, as the current volunteers will also be attending.

Please book this seperately or contact Beth Morgan directly to get a link: beth@rootingandfruiting.co.uk
