MOZART Overture to the Marriage of Figaro
SCRIABIN Le Poème d’extase
MAHLER Symphony No. 1
Walthamstow Assembly Hall
Conductor Mark Shanahan
Mozart’s overture to his opera The Marriage of Figaro bristles with his trademark energy. The concert then takes a slower pace with Scriabin’s mystical tone poem, which he declared would be ‘a great joy, an enormous festival’. Mahler’s first symphony is awonderfully epic work, full of the aches, pains and joys of life. The ending from the horns and brass is so uplifting it is sure to give you a spring in your step as you leave the hall for the summer..
