SAINT-SAËNS Danse Macabre
RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Capriccio Espagnol
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 6
Walthamstow Assembly Hall
Conductor Mark Shanahan
To open the season with a nod to upcoming Halloween, we have dancing skeletons represented by the xylophone in Saint-Saëns’ lively tone poem. Capriccio espagnol is a rousing dance suite for orchestra based on Spanish folk melodies, and features virtuosic cadenzas for various instruments. Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, the Pathétique, is a passionate representation of the power of fate in life and death.
