Forest School at the Old School - Heritage Open Day 2020
Event Information
About this Event
Forest School at the Old School is taking place as part of our September 2020 Heritage Open Days events on:
- Saturday 12th September
- Sunday 13th September
- Saturday 18th September
- Sunday 19th September
Entry limited to one group per 15 minute time slot, between 10.30 - 13.30.
The same activities will be available each day, so there is no need to book more than once.
Forest School Fun
Get a little taste of Forest School fun with some FREE outdoor activities for families to enjoy together, in the Old School Wildlife garden on Saturday and Sunday mornings during Heritage Open Days.
Exploring Nature
Explore the Old School Wildlife garden and discover more about the hidden world of nature all around us.
Little ones will love hunting for clues in our nature hunt to discover all sorts of (friendly!) beasties hidden in the garden. They can make a pie or stone soup in our mud kitchen, and weave their way through our magical ribbon maze among the trees. Finish off their visit by finding out about the UK’s native glow worm and make their very own glow worm lantern to light their way home.
Activities will be set up in the Wildlife Garden for children to discover and engage with as they like - these are not guided sessions, so all children must be accompanied by a parent or adult, though volunteers will be on hand to help!
Families with children of all ages are welcome to take part, though activities are especially suited to little ones.
Group Tickets
Because of the need to comply with Covid-19 safety measures, entry to the Forest School area will be restricted to fifteen minute time slots. Tickets must be booked in advance.
There will be one group ticket available for each time slot, to help stagger arrival and allow groups to socially distance from one another.
Groups can contain 3 adults and up to six children. You do not need to be related to the other members of the group, but you will need to be part of the same social bubble if you are not a family, as the nature of this event means you may not be able to maintain social distancing from other adults in your group.
Safety measures
In normal circumstances, Forest School enables children to freely choose how and when they participate in activities, but under current regulations and given the small size of our outdoor space we are unable to run this event the way we would ideally want to.
So for this event, there will be a one-way path to follow, with nature-inspired activities set up at intervals along it. Hand cleaning stations will be set up at each activity too, and we ask that parents ensure children use these between each activity.
We are sure the children will still have a wonderful time and welcome any suggestions or feedback you may have for future events.
Visitors may also be interested in our Wild Times Heritage Open Days event on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th September, when expert ecologists, Bernwood will be coming to the Old School with a host of interesting artefacts and answering questions about our local wildlife. Special guest Lorraine of Hedgehog Haven MK will also be there, hopefully bringing along a very special (and spiky) friend...
If you are coming to Wild Times and Forest School on Saturday 12th, when these events are on at the same time, please make sure to book tickets for each event separately. Tickets are free, but are required so that we can manage capacity in accordance with current government regulations.
