Looking to connect children or adults with woodlands while helping them realise their own potential? The Forest School ethos is the perfect tool to do this. Gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver Forest School in your own setting on our AIM Qualifications accredited Level 3 course.


Who is this course for?
This qualification has been developed to to support individuals in Forest School programmes and outdoor learning, enabling learners to plan Forest Schools in their own settings. The course is designed to meet the needs of school and college staff, teachers and teaching assistants, youth workers, adults, and professionals in training to become a Forest School Leader.

What is covered?
Our comprehensive program covers the theoretical and practical aspects including principles of Forest School, practical tool use, programme planning and learning theory. The course includes a 2-day Outdoor First Aid qualification within the course fee.

Course structure:
The course is delivered over 6 individual sessions. You will also complete a portfolio workbook and practical assessment to gain a certificate accredited at Level 3 by AIM Qualifications.

Initial training on: 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th October 2025

You should be available for each of these dates.

About the venue:
Sessions will be held in the Discovery Room Classroom at Carsington Water Visitor Centre, Derbyshire. The site hosts a range of facilities, including a cafe. We will also use our outdoor classroom area.

What to bring with you:
Much of the course takes place outdoors so please dress appropriately for the time of year, including sturdy footwear. In addition:

Frequently asked questions

Where can I park?

Parking is in the Carsington Water Visitor's Centre Carpark. You will need to provide your vehicle registration at the main reception on the day of your course in order to claim free parking, otherwise you may be liable for a penalty charge.

Can I get to the venue by public transport?

Nearest stop: Buses between Matlock and Ashbourne: Service 110 / 111. Buses between Derby and Bakewell: The Sixes 6.1 + local service from Wirksworth. Check times and route before travel.

What facilities will there be?

The classroom session will take place indoors with access to toilets and a small kitchen area. . There is a small cafe on site at Carsington. During the outdoor parts of the course there will be no indoor facilities. Toilets are located approximately a 5 minute walk away.

If I book but I am no longer able to attend, what is your refund policy?

If you are unable to attend the course after booking please email: trainingenquiries@derbyshirewt.co.uk at least 7 days prior to the event. Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be able to claim a refund.

Can I transfer my ticket to somebody else?

If you would like to transfer your ticket to somebody else after booking, please email trainingenquiries@derbyshirewt.co.uk

What is your cancellation policy?

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserves the right to cancel the course at any time. Attendees will be notified at least 24 hours in advance and will be entitled to a full refund.

Will the event be postponed if there is bad weather?

Unfortunately we cannot control the weather so most courses will go ahead as planned. However, in extreme cases we may cancel/postpone if the weather is likely to pose an unacceptable risk to staff and attendees. Wherever possible, we will contact attendees prior to the event start time to advise.
