Join the Human Rights Law Centre for our upcoming workshop 'Forging a path for human rights law into the AI risks conversation: Celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law', hosted by the HRLC's European Human Rights Law unit. This online event will take place on Wednesday, 29 October from 13:00-15:00 (GMT).

The workshop celebrates the one-year anniversary of the first global treaty on AI risks - the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law.

We will engage with many topics, including:

  • What were the highly debatable issues in the negotiation and drafting of the Convention?
  • What is the added value of the Convention in regulating the risk that AI systems pose to human rights, democracy and the rule of law?
  • What are the implementation possibilities and challenges lying ahead?

We are delighted to be joined by speakers:

  • Mario Hernandez Ramos, Council of Europe Committee of AI, Chair;
  • Amit Thapar, UK representative in the Council of Europe Committee of AI, Bureau member; and
  • Lorna McGregor, Professor of International Human Rights Law, Essex Law School.

The event will be chaired by Mando Rachovitsa, Deputy Director of the Human Rights Law Centre, University of Nottingham.
