Event description

Description

This course is delivered by the Confederation of British Metalforming in association with the University of Wolverhampton and the Black Country Skills Factory. The course is delivered in 3 modules all taking place on the same day. The registration paperwork will reflect this when the delegates are signed in.

Section 1

Avoiding forging defects and saving material by means of forging simulation

Learning aim

To enable learners to understand:-

  • How to simulate the process having several forging blows
  • How we can avoid forging defects by means of simulation
  • How to save material

Outcomes

The learner will be able to go back to their workplace and

  • Have an understanding of practical implementation of simulation for improving of forging technology
  • Be able to find the ways to eliminate typical forging defects and reduce material waste
  • Under the EU funding rules, eligibility will be checked before the course commences
  • People currently undertaking a modern apprenticeship are not eligible for this funded course
  • Your business must be located in the Black Country to be eligible for this course

Section 2

Thermally and mechanically coupled simulation of hot forging technology

Learning aim

To enable learners to understand:-

  • Thermal conditions of hot forging process and their role in simulation
  • Dies deformation and its influence on the forging process simulation
  • Non-coupled and coupled simulation

Outcomes

The learner will be able to go back to their workplace and

  • Have an understanding of thermal balance during forging
  • Be able to specify both non-coupled and coupled forging simulation

Section 3

Finite Element simulation of forging technology

Learning aim

To enable learners to understand

  • General aims and goals of modelling of forging process
  • Specifics of finite element simulation using commercial software tools to model bulk metal forming processes
  • Material, equipment and lubricant data required for forging simulation
  • Basic routine to simulate forging process

Outcomes

The learner will be able to go back to their workplace and:-

  • Have an understanding of basic principles of finite element modelling
  • Be able to specify necessary data for forging simulation and run it

  • Under the EU funding rules, eligibility will be checked before the course commences
  • People currently undertaking a modern apprenticeship are not eligible for this funded course
  • Your business must be located in the Black Country to be eligible for this course
