FORMA Seminar #51 - Resilient by Design: Futureproofing Our Heritage
Overview
Heritage buildings are facing new climate pressures, from heavier rainfall to rising energy demands. “Resilient by Design: Futureproofing Our Heritage” explores how architectural conservation is evolving from preservation to futureproofing historic places.
We willl examine water resilience, including upgraded rainwater disposal and drainage to handle increased rainfall; energy resilience, focusing on sensitive retrofits that improve efficiency without harming historic fabric; and material resilience, highlighting how traditional, repairable, low-carbon materials and their re-use offer lessons for modern construction.
Marta Santacroce joined Purcell in 2022 as part of the Palace of Westminster team.
During her previous experience she has worked on the conservation of iconic buildings, high-end historic residential, and community projects, such as churches. She is an associate member of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association.
Marta has developed a keen interest in conservation throughout her studies and professional career, with particular attention to reviving and enhancing the communal value of built heritage.
