Event description

Description

Guided tours of historic Fort Cumberland, a coastal fortification rebuilt from 1782 onwards. The tour will include the ramparts with their gun emplacements, the magazines and the well-preserved High Angle battery of 1890-4. Visitors will also see a small military prison cell known as the Black Hole and a 1940s cinema/theatre.

The historic fort tour includes walking up steep-ish ramps and over uneven ground. Visitors will be asked to keep away from unfenced drops. The rough vegetation includes nettles and brambles, so the wearing of stout footwear and long trousers is advisable.

Access to the cinema/theatre is by means of an external staircase only. Partial wheelchair access, not pushchair or pram friendly and dogs should be kept on a lead as there are foxes and other wildlife on site.

This is a rare opportunity to see this exceptional site and tours have been very popular so early booking is advised.

If you make a booking and then find that you cannot visit the fort on your selected date and time, we would be grateful if you could cancel your booking so that the tour can be freed up for others.

We welcome bookings for small groups, but any bookings for multiple dates and times will be challenged and may be cancelled.
