Forth & Clyde Canal: Reservoirs, Wrangles and Rorts
Event Information
Description
Forth & Clyde Canal: Reservoirs, Wrangles and Rorts
Tuesday 12 March, 2pm
The Forth & Clyde Canal is a thin ribbon of water linking Scotland’s East and West coasts. Thin though it is, the canal embodies stories and infrastructure that make it much more than just a ribbon. This illustrated talk explores some of the stories of the canal: stories of
Glasgow–Edinburgh rivalry, of merchants using their wealth to exploit the canal and its construction, and stories of the web of structures that have supported the canal from its first days.
In partnership with Scottish Local History Forum.
