Event description

Description

Rose Collis has been an out and proud lesbian writer, performer and activist for over four decades. She has witnessed, participated in and chronicled many key events in LGBT history, especially those affecting and emanating from the lesbian community. These include early Gay Pride/Lesbian Strength marches; the response to the AIDS crisis; tabloid media attacks; the creation of ground-breaking documentary Framed Youth; and the battles against Section 28.

This rich, diverse history is the foundation of a new solo stage show with live music, including songs written and performed by her, that will be ‘flagging up the lesbian history’. This work will be the cornerstone of a major two-year HLF-funded lesbian heritage project that will begin from January 2021, featuring anecdotes and rare cuttings, photos, artefacts and ephemera from Rose’s private and extensive archive.

As part of LGBT History Month 2020, join Rose Collis for this entertaining and informative 25-minute illustrated ‘taster’ for the show, which was presented for the first time at the ALMS Conference Berlin June 2019 where it was met with great acclaim.

It will be followed by a short Q&A session.

Free, but booking essential.
