About this event

The Foundation in Paediatric Pharmaceutical Care Masterclass is an established programme delivered by the Paediatric Pharmacy Team at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, as part of a King’s Health Partners initiative.

Who should attend?

The Masterclass is designed for qualified and practising pharmacists with an interest in delivering pharmaceutical care to children and neonates.


Four exciting half-day online sessions have been designed to explore the latest developments and best practice in the safe use of medicines in children. The programme aims to demonstrate and share examples of good pharmaceutical practice via a blending teaching approach comprising lectures, tutorials, patient case discussion with a focus on practical application of skills and knowledge. The programme is delivered by expert paediatric pharmacists who are experienced in delivering patient-centred care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Course topics include:

  • Formulations
  • Pharmacokinetics
  • Management of a critically ill child
  • Drugs in pregnancy
  • Neonatal pharmaceutical care
  • Paediatric oncology and palliative care
  • Fluids and nutrition
  • Paediatric infectious diseases
  • Pharmacy service delivery at ward level, including multidisciplinary team working and clinical cases

After completing the course programme delegates will:

  • have acquired knowledge of the best practice in dealing with common paediatric clinical problems; from general to more specialised care
  • have a detailed understanding of age appropriate formulations for safer purchasing and administration of medicines to children
  • be aware of practical pharmacological aspects relating to medicines in children, and be able to apply this knowledge in practice
  • be able to set out appropriate risk/governance strategies to make their paediatric pharmacy practice safer and more effective
  • be equipped with strategies for working effectively in a patient-facing environment
  • be familiar with how to access relevant information resources to support evidence-based paediatric pharmaceutical care
