About this event
"Four Films To Change The World" are films were made by students from the 2021 Documentary Film Masters at London College of Communication and include stories from Turkey, Sudan, Pakistan and Western Sahara.
Each film lasts around 20 min, but the stories embedded in each will make you reflect and perhaps consider ways to take actions to make our world a better place to live. Some of the films have already received awards and one of them was featured at the BBC.
In "Harvesting Our Tea" three rural women strive to shape their futures in the face of economic decline and inequality in Turkey’s Black Sea tea-picking communities. It was a runner up for One World Media 2022 Awards and together with "State of Dissent" has been shortlisted for the Grierson Student Documentary Award 2022.
In "The Tear Gas Hunter" we’ll dive into the stories of some very brave Sudanese women, and their personal experiences in the events of the Sudanese revolution. We'll explore how the experience changed their lives, and highlight their personal journeys, from “girls with simple dreams” to leaders of a social movement. This documentary was selected for First time Filmmaker Festival in England, Lift-Off Filmmaker Festival, London Movie Award, Florence Film Award and Milan Gold Awards.
"State of Dissent" follows the stories of Pakistani dissidents living in Europe and trying to build a normal live amongst extraordinary circumstances.....
"Sandtracks" is an intimate and epic portrait of Danielle’ Smith, founder of Sandblast Arts, as she introduces her life’s mission to bringing the unknown struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination to worldwide attention.
After the screening of the films there will be a short Q & A with the directors.
This special fund and awareness raising event will help support Sandblast Arts, a UK arts & human rights charity promoting the voices and visions of the Saharawi from Western Sahara.
All funds raised will go towards Desert Voicebox; our after school programme providing music education and English language lessons with Saharawi children in the refugee camps in Algeria.
Thanks to the generous support of the Venezuelan Embassy of the United Kingdom in the organisation of this event.
