This workshop, hosted jointly by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the International Energy Agency (IEA), will take place on October 10, 2017 in Paris, France at the OECD Conference Center .

This year’s workshop, titled “Electrification and its Implications for the Electricity Sector” will focus on the rapid development and deployment of advanced electric technologies in transportation, residential and commercial use, and manufacturing. Rapid technological innovation and adoption could have significant impacts on decarbonisation efforts, grid management, resiliency, and energy security. Panels comprised of technology analysts, policy makers, industry representatives, security experts, and other thought leaders will discuss these impacts and related trends and challenges.

The workshop will be organized around four panels:

  1. Technological Developments in Electrification

Panelists will discuss technological advances in electrification and their implications for the future of electrification.

  2. Policy Developments Impacting Electrification

Government representatives and thought leaders will discuss projections for electrification in various parts of the world and state and national policies driving/encouraging electrification.

  3. Barriers and Implications of Electrification for the Electric Industry

Representatives from the utility industry around the world will discuss how advancements in technology, new policies, and consumer choices are driving electrification, the impacts on their company, and potential challenges and barriers.

  4. : The Implications of Electrification for Security

This panel will examine the security risks and benefits of electrification, as well as means to address risks and enhance resiliency in a more electrified world.

In addition to this one day workshop, the IEA, EPRI, and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) will host the 17th Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Workshop on October 11th and 12th. This workshop will cover topics such as the role of carbon pricing in the low-carbon transition, China’s national emissions trading system (ETS), EU ETS reform, implementation of the Paris Agreement, and other areas.
