This workshop series will provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to create effective and engaging research videos that communicate their research in a clear and impactful way. Through hands-on activities and guidance, participants will gain valuable experience in planning, filming, editing, and promoting their videos. It will run twice – one in May/ one in June

Weds 3rd May - Workshop 1: Planning and Storyboarding Your Video

• Overview of research videos and their importance

• Identifying your target audience and goals for the video

• Developing a clear message and story for your video

• Introduction to storyboarding and how to use it to plan your video

• Hands-on activity: Brainstorming storyboards for research video

Weds 10th May - Workshop 2: Filming Your Video

• Introduction to video equipment and how to use it effectively

• Importance of lighting and sound for video production

• Tips for filming and conducting interviews

• How to capture b-roll footage to enhance your video (also Canva)

• Hands-on activity: Filming footage for your research video

Weds 17th May - Workshop 3: Editing and Promoting Your Video

• Overview of video editing software and how to use it (iMovie)

• Importance of pacing and structure in your video

• How to select and arrange footage for maximum impact

• Adding music and sound effects to enhance your video

• Importance of video titles, descriptions, and keywords (YouTube)

• Hands-on activity: Editing and refining your research video
