Learn or improve your frame drum or darbuka playing technique, rhythms and variations through weekly online workshops

About this Event

If you always wanted to explore playing Middle Eastern percussion or improve your technique and learn new rhythms, these workshops are for you. They are designed for beginners and lower intermediate.

IF YOU CHOSE FRAME DRUMS on TUESDAYS at 6PM (Starting 19th MAY)

You will learn:

- Upright teachniques including how to hold the drum, play DUM, TAK, KA and PAH(slap) and SNAPS.

- Learn simple 2, 3, 4, and 5 beat rhythms with music track suggestions to practice with at home.

- Vocalization of rhythms and excerises that will help you understand the division of the beat (subdivisions) and how to use it in your playing.

- How to play and move/step in time with the beat

IF YOU CHOSE DARBUKA on WEDNESDAYS at 6PM (Starting 20th May):

You will learn:

- How to hold the drum, play DUM, TAK, KA and PAH(slap) and MAHBUS ("pop" sounds).

- Simple 2, 3, 4, and 5 beat rhythms with music track suggestions to practice with at home.

- Vocalization of rhythms and excerises that will help you understand the division of the beat (subdivisions) and how to use it in your playing.

You will need:

- A frame drum and/or darbuka

- Be registered in zoom.

- The will and enthusiasm to progress as we go along, practicing in between the lessons

£7 (plus eventbrite fee)

How long is the lessons for?

40 minutes per lesson for 7 weeks

A ZOOM LINK WILL BE SENT TO YOU FOR EITHER OF THE WORKSHOPS ONCE YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE TICKET, ON THE DAY OF EVENT
