About this event

The Spanish campaign of Napoléon Bonaparte is probably the least known of by the general public. This part of the story, however, had a significant impact on the evolution of the relationship between France and Spain and on the destiny of both nations. The consequences of this conflict were heavy for the two countries, creating great turmoil for both nations at the time. We must consider, however, the larger chronological context in which the changes took place, starting from 1700 and the accession to the Spanish throne of a French Bourbon, reorganising the alliances that used to prevail in Europe.

Organiser Alliance Française Cambridge

Organiser of France, Spain and Europe - Online History lecture (in French)

The Alliance Française is the world's leading association for the teaching of French and promoting French culture. It has a much respected reputation in over 140 countries.

At the local level we aim to provide a "bridge" to everything French in and around Cambridge. We are here to help in whatever way we can: teaching the language, sharing conversation in French, reading and discussing books, enjoying French food and wine, watching French cinema, making trips to France et encore...

The Alliance Française is also keen to involve the many people from France and from French-speaking countries around the world who live in and around Cambridge and to serve as a meeting point for anyone who shares our love of France.
