FREE ANTIQUES VALUATION ROADSHOW AT TRENT & MERSEY CANAL’S LION SALT WORKS MUSEUM IN NORTHWICH ON SATURDAY 21 OCTOBER

If you’ve been wondering about a family heirloom that has been in the attic for years or are curious about how much some favourite antique should be insured for, Cheshire’s Lion Salt Works Museum’s free Antiques Valuation Roadshow on 21 October may be just the ticket. The Museum, located on the Trent & Mersey Canal, has teamed up with celebrity experts from well-known Cheshire auctioneers, Wright Marshall, who will give free valuations between 10.30am – 4.00pm. For more information contact 01606 275066.

Peter Ashburner, Director of Fine Art, Wright Marshall, said: “Wright Marshall is delighted to be coming to the Lion Salt Works Museum for this valuation day. This is a rather unusual event for us and we are all looking forward to giving the Antiques Road Show a run for its money. I will be bringing several of my colleagues, some of whom appear regularly as experts on TV antiques programmes.”

“I am sure that lots of people have got an interesting old object or something that has been passed down through the family that they would like looked at and valued. It would be great to find something that really sums up Northwich’s rich industrial history.”

Long-established auctioneers and estate agents, Wright Marshal has a reputation as one of the leading auction houses of the North-West and Wales, as well as serving Yorkshire and beyond. It has regular auctions in its Knutsford and Beeston sales rooms, where its auctioneers are renowned for their quality and range of their expertise. Wright Marshall is also well- known regionally for its extensive estate agency and lettings network.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “I am delighted that Wright Marshall’s expert antiques team is able to support the Lion Salt Works Museum by giving of their time and expertise to value people’s treasures. I like the way the Lion Salt Works has interpreted its role of engaging people in history. A love of history can often start with the story of a favourite object and its connection to one’s own family’s past. I hope everyone enjoys a great free day out.”

The Lion Salt Works Museum is owned by Cheshire West and Chester Council and its £10m four-year restoration was made possible thanks to Heritage Lottery funding. The Museum tells the story of salt through fun, interactive displays, including a ‘subsiding house’ and a sound and light show that simulates the steam from the boiling salt pans. The Museum also has its own moorings on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

The Museum has won seven awards since opening, including two national restoration awards and ‘Best Heritage Project 2016’ from the National Lottery, following a national vote.

There is free parking and free access to the shop, café, play area and butterfly garden.
