Art and Design CPD - Approaches to using Sketchbooks in Primary Schools
At this free workshop organised by Black Shale Cultural Education Partnership will explore the unique concept of a sketchbook – what is it, how is it used, what goes in it and how it differs from the books used across other subjects.
Using a mixture of artist case studies, stories from the classroom and practical activities, we will shine a light on the role of the sketchbook and demystify its place in the primary art curriculum.
At the session you will:
- Build your knowledge of sketchbook practice and how you can use them;
- Grow your understanding of what effective sketchbooks can look like;
- Explore how they can be an effective tool to record learning, support progression and develop creativity.
The workshop will be led by Adele Darlington, a Primary Art Education Consultant working with the National Society for Education in Art & Design (NSEAD) and with over 24 years of classroom experience. Renowned for her inspiring and inclusive approach, Adele works globally to support children and teachers in unlocking creativity through art. Adele is the author of 100 ideas for Primary Teachers: Art published by Bloomsbury in 2022.
