About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

These in-person workshops are open to anyone who has used mental health services, as well as their friends, families or carers. Led by acclaimed artists, the sessions are relaxed, creative, and open to all — no experience needed. They are part of a Hospital Rooms project to create permanent artworks for wards at Fieldhead and Kendray Hospitals, and the ideas, conversations and creativity shared in these workshops will help inspire the final artworks.

Find out more about the project: www.hospital-rooms.com / @_hospitalrooms

The workshop is free and all workshop materials will be provided. Please email Tim (tim.steer@hospital-rooms.com) for further information.

In-person at The Hepworth Wakefield in the learning studios

Monday 11th August, 2:30-4:30pm

As part of Hospital Rooms’ ambitious arts and mental health programme in partnership with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SWYFT), this workshop at The Hepworth Wakefield invites you to explore cyanotype printmaking with local artist Benaiah Matheson.

In this special session, you’ll be invited to step into the world of "Town Island" through the 1000 Flags workshop — a layered exploration of heritage, identity, and light. Drawing on cyanotype techniques, Benaiah will guide you in crafting your own flag of light and textiles using fabric, tracing paper, and personal or natural materials. Each flag becomes part of a collective story woven from many journeys.

Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes, producing vivid blue-and-white prints using UV light.

This workshop is part of our co-production programme, where artists, service users and communities collaborate on the development of future commissioned artworks for mental health services across Yorkshire.
