FREE Authentic School Leadership Workshop with Viv Grant
Tue 13 June 2017, 09:00 – 12:30 BST
For one reason or another, as leaders we can find ourselves consciously or unconsciously acting differently to the person that we know ourselves inwardly to be.
We can often find ourselves trying to be like the leader that we think we “should” be rather than leading in a way that is aligned to the person we are.
Being an authentic leader can be challenging for all leaders but this can be particularly difficult in the context of an education system which can sometimes seem to require its leaders to hide their vulnerability, how they're feeling & act against their values in order to survive in the profession.
What is often overlooked, is that there are serious consequences to this way of being. As when we find ourselves leading in a ways that neglect our inner self, fail to nurture our well-being and seem opposed to our values and our purpose for being in education, we can find that our vocational vitality can be compromised in the process. In turn, we may find that with this our love of leadership and performance in our role can also diminish over time.
That's why I'm running this very interactive workshop designed to offer a chance for School Leaders to connect, share experiences of School Leadership, explore what matters most in good leadership & identify ways of leading which allow them to do so with greater authenticity.
As we explore this important topic within leadership and education, I will be discussing:
- How a lack of alignment between our public & private selves can alter our behaviour, our view of ourselves & damage our wellbeing
- The common mistakes we often make which can stop us being our authentic selves
- How we can learn to recognise authenticity in others
The session will also offer school leaders the space and time to reflect on what it means to be a School Leader today, the impact and the challenges as we seek to identify new ways forward to support school leaders in maintaining their ability to lead and inspire.
On the day, I’ll also be sharing some useful secrets, tools and coaching exercises from my years of coaching and my experience as a Head Teacher as to how School Leaders can develop greater self-awareness, authenticity and courage in their roles.
Above all, the workshop aims to help all School Leaders to come to explore how in their leadership role, they can:
- Maintain their vision, passion & purpose - all of which are vital ingredients for school improvement
- Overcome challenges without resorting to personally destructive defence mechanisms
- Be courageous when challenges arise & remain rooted in their values & beliefs
- Create schools which are full of connection, feeling & passion
