Event description

Description

Authenticity is tough. In a world full of appearances, showing who we truly are to the world can make us feel vulnerable and exposed to judgement. It can therefore often feels easier to hide behind a mask of what we think others want us to be or use defence mechanisms to protect us from hurt.

Whilst the risks of authenticity can feel strong - the rewards are greater. When we are able to express the person who we are, live and lead according to what we believe in and in pursuit of what we know to be our purpose, then we can find an quiet inner joy that supports, motivates and sustains us.

However, for our School Leaders, authenticity has become increasingly unattainable in the context of an education system which can sometimes seem to require its leaders to act against their values, hide their vulnerability, how they're feeling and adopt certain damaging ways of being and leading in order to simply survive in the profession.

It is also worrying given the damage that this can have on our School Leaders. As without this authenticity, School leaders can find themselves failing to nurture their very purpose for being in education. In turn, Heads can find their vocational vitality, love of leadership and performance can also be diminished in the process.

That's why I'm running this very interactive workshop designed to offer a chance for School Leaders to connect, share experiences of School Leadership, explore what matters most in good leadership & identify ways of leading which allow them to do so with greater authenticity.

As we explore this important topic within leadership and education, I will be discussing:

- How a lack of alignment between our public & private selves can alter our behaviour, our view of ourselves & damage our wellbeing

- The common mistakes we often make which can stop us being our authentic selves

- How we can learn to recognise authenticity in others

The session will also offer school leaders the space and time to reflect on what it means to be a School Leader today, the impact and the challenges as we seek to identify new ways forward to support school leaders in maintaining their ability to lead and inspire.

On the day, I’ll also be sharing some useful secrets, tools and coaching exercises from my years of coaching and my experience as a Head Teacher as to how School Leaders can develop greater self-awareness, authenticity and courage in their roles.

Above all, the workshop aims to help all School Leaders to come to explore how in their leadership role, they can:

- Maintain their vision, passion & purpose - all of which are vital ingredients for school improvement

- Overcome challenges without resorting to personally destructive defence mechanisms

- Be courageous when challenges arise & remain rooted in their values & beliefs

- Create schools which are full of connection, feeling & passion
