Free broadcast media training for Ukraine
Event Information
About this event
"Jaw, jaw is better than war, war."
For years, first as a journalist and broadcaster and now as a trainer and poet, I've believed in the power of words. That to talk is infinitely better than to fight, as this quote from Winston Churchill nicely puts it.
But when the talking stops and the fighting starts, as it has in Ukraine, do words lose their power? I don't believe so. During Putin's illegal war against the Ukrainian people I've heard many, many interviewees - from within Ukraine and beyond - use words eloquently and passionately to highlight their plight or argue their corner.
Words do matter. They can make a difference. If they can start wars they can end them.
So if you're using or planning to use the media positively in any way during this truly awful conflict we'd like to help you here at ACM Training. And it's on us. Free for whoever needs it. For as long as needed.
You might be Ukrainian or even living in Ukraine and want to share your story with the world but aren't sure what it's like to be interviewed and want to have a practice away from the glare of the media first. You might be working in the Third Sector building awareness or capacity to deal with the refugeee crisis that worsens by the day. You might simply be organising a modest event to raise money for the various charity appeals and want a little bit of publicity on your local radio station.
All we ask is that you are or intend to use words for the good of Ukraine and its people. In return we'll:
- Show you how to plan for a media interview - whether you've got five minutes or five days' planning time.
- Help you stay in control of the interview process so you get to say what you want to say irrespective of the questions (without sounding slippery, of course)!
- Equip you with the skills and knowledge to promote your key messages like a pro using technqiues like tagging and repition.
We're limiting the numbers for each three-hour online session to about six people, initially at least, so that every delegate has the chance to give a practice interview (don't worry it's not compulsory)! But don't worry if you miss out or can't attend this week because there's always next week. Or the week after. And although it's completely free we're making it booking-only to avoid being disrupted by those who don't share our belief that words matter and can make the world a better place.
