Description

Business Planning for Charities

This free event is exclusively for charities.

Writing a business plan has many benefits: bringing your colleagues together to ensure that everyone's on the same page, thinking through the details of your activities, taking a clear look at your finances, and thinking carefully about your operating environment. Come to Cranfield Trust's half day free class and find out how to put together a plan that will focus your thinking and ensure that you're on track for a sustainable future.

Why business planning? In the current economic climate, good planning is essential. Writing a plan helps you to think through every aspect of your organisation, to set clear objectives and map the resources you need to achieve them. The process of planning brings together trustees and staff, creating a shared understanding and ownership of the future plan, and requires you to consider your operating environment carefully, to ensure that you assess possible changes and think through how your organisation will respond to them. Financial information is key to a plan: to ensure you are clear on your organisation's sustainability and to consider how you will generate income to meet your objectives. There's no more important time to prepare a business plan, to set out your own agenda in a challenging climate. A good plan will also support your fundraising as well as providing a great reporting tool for you and your board.

This class will be interactive and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the kind of business plan your organisation needs. You will also have the opportunity to meet your peers from other charities in a supportive environment.

Presenter Bio

This business planning workshop will be presented and delivered by formerly director of BT Wales and CEO of BT Wholesale, John Davies, who was responsible for the BT UK network and introduced broadband to Wales. He’s previously advised the Welsh Government on business policy and economics, has been the OFCOM Welsh committee chairman and is now a telecoms consultant.

John is an economics graduate from Nottingham University and has an MBA from The London Business School. He has also served on The Princes Trust for Wales and is an active volunteer for the Cranfield Trust supporting charities in London and Wales

Who will benefit? The class is aimed at Chief Executives, managers and trustees of charities, who are responsible for developing strategy and future planning for organisations, projects or departments of charities. Trustees are welcome, to help develop their views of the type of plans charities need to prepare.

What you will learn: What to include in a business plan; how to manage the planning process, tips and techniques for presenting your business plan, ensuring your plan is robust.

Lunch and refreshments: A sandwich lunch and refreshments will be provided at the free event (kindly provided by Brewin Dolphin).
