FREE: Children's Learn To Ride A Bike Class. Last Saturday of the month.
Sat 27 May 2017, 13:00 – 14:30 BST
It's something that every parent struggles with - getting your kids off their stabilisers and riding on two wheels. But don't worry - help is at hand! Our volunteers are a dab hand a teaching kids to ride. Most children get the hang of it in around 45 minutes to an hour or so. And even if they don't quite manage it, a bit of extra ptactice, or coming back for a follow up session generally does the trick.
This is a FREE event, but there are some things you can do to help out:
- If at all possible, bring your child's own bike. We have a few to lend out, but it's better if they learn on the bike they'll be riding on regularly
- Ditto for a helmet. It's not compulsory, but when learning to ride it's not unusual for children to have the occasional tumble. We'd rather this was a "learning experience" instead of a health and safety incident! We have a few helmets that we can lend out. We also have helmets for sale in the shop if you want to buy one
- If their bike has stabilisers on it, it'd be a big help if you could take them off before you come to the class. If you can't / don't have the tools / don't have time, then don't panic - we can do it on the day, although this does take up a bit of the teaching time.
- Ditto for the pedals, Lot's of people struggle with this, as the left hand pedal has a left-hand thread (you turn it the wrong way to undo it), and not everyone has a good 15mm spanner to do the job. If you can't, don't panic, as we can!
Finally, make sure you bring your camera. We're pretty sure you'll want to film your proud moment!
