New FREE training dates are available throughout 2024 so people can learn what the Climate Emergency means for them and find out how they can take positive action.

Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire is welcome to attend. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses particularly encouraged to get involved and Keep Scotland Beautiful is available to deliver bespoke group sessions.

The training will be delivered by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and has been designed in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action. It is fully funded by the UK Government with £42,175 being provided through the Shared Prosperity Fund.

As this training is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project it provides an opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.

Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire is welcome to attend*. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses are particularly encouraged to get involved.

*Advertised sessions are for attendees aged 18 and above. For attendees under the age of 18, please contact Keep Scotland Beautiful (climate@keepscotlandbeautiful.org) - a bespoke session can be arranged.


Why should I take this training?

  • Understand how your community and homelife will be impacted by climate change - in terms of physical impacts and new regulations and expectations, as Scotland moves to a low carbon future.
  • It’s relevant to East Dunbartonshire through local case studies and examples sourced by East Dunbartonshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
  • Understand the science of climate change.
  • Understand the meaning of terms like 'Climate Emergency', ‘global warming’, ‘climate change’ ‘net zero’ and ‘carbon footprint’.
  • Get Carbon Literate - identify greenhouse gas emissions of your activities, and practical actions you can take to reduce them.
  • Future-proof your community and homelife as far as possible
  • Learn about co-benefits of climate action, such as improved resilience to extreme weather, reduced costs and improved environmental quality.


How will the training take place?

This training is eight hours of learning, which includes:

  • Two 2.5 hour live online sessions: Thursday 22 August & Thursday 29 August (both 14:00-16:30).
  • Online self-study, and the submission of an online assessment for the opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.

In-person sessions: One 09:30-16:00 session, plus online Carbon Literacy Assessment:

  • In-person: Kirkintilloch Town Hall: 23 May (09:30-16:00)
  • In person: Westerton Town Hall: 11 September (09:30-16:00)

Online sessions: Two 2.5 hour sessions, plus online self-study and Carbon Literacy Assessment:

  • Online: 17 June & 24 June (both 14:00-16:30)
  • Online: 18 July & 25 July (both 10:00-12:30)
  • Online: 22 August & 29 August (both 14:00-16:30)
  • Online: 2 October & 9 October (both 18:00-20:30)
  • Online: 8 November & 15 November (both 10:00-12:30)
  • Online: 30 November & 7 December (both 10:00-12:30)

What type of certification will I get for the Accredited Training?

  • The course is accredited to meet the Carbon Literacy Standard by the Carbon Literacy Project, and participants that successfully complete the course receive a certificate confirming that they are Carbon Literate.
  • Participants who successfully complete the course will also be eligible to attend further sessions, so they can deliver the training in their community.

Data Protection Act 2018

Keep Scotland Beautiful is delivering Climate Emergency Training (CET) as part of a contract with East Dunbartonshire Council (EDC). We will also be working in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action (EDVA). The CET is funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. The CET includes this Accredited Training Course.

We (Keep Scotland Beautiful) will hold information you provide us via Eventbrite in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.

We will use information you provide:

-To process your registration for the Accredited CET

-To send you communications about the CET, including relevant follow-up information.

-For monitoring and reporting.

-For purposes including marketing and promotion (only anonymised data).

-To enrol you on our eLearning platform called Moodle.

We have a contract with EDC to deliver CET and may share information you provide with EDC, as they have a legitimate interest in the training. Information collected from the Equality and Diversity questions will be anonymised before it is shared. If your attendance at the training has been organised by an organisation or company, we may also share relevant information with them.

We will store your information for 12 months from the date the CET contract with EDC has been completed. We will then delete your information.
