About this event

Some people think writing is scary, that telling stories is hard, but the reality is, we all have a great story in us, and we should be encouraged to share it. Sometimes, we just need to learn how.

In this workshop, local author Richie Billing shows you one of the simplest and most effective methods of telling captivating and complete stories.

Richie will teach you how to create three-dimensional characters that readers will connect with and follow, and how to craft stories and plots that keep readers hooked.

This class is ideal for new writers and existing writers alike, with the theories of lots of brilliant authors and editors drawn upon to show you the fundamentals of writing in a fresh, accessible way.

A workbook and printout will be provided on the day

Richie Billing writes all kinds of stories, but mostly fantasy and literary fiction. His tales often explore real-world issues, zooming in on the characters and their troubles.

His short fiction has been widely published, with one story adapted for BBC radio. His debut novel, Pariah's Lament, was published by Of Metal and Magic in March 2021. In March 2025, Richie released his timely fantasy novella, Together We Rise, a book like no other, featuring an original soundtrack woven into the tale. Richie also hosts the podcast The Fantasy Writers’ Toolshed.

When not writing, Richie works as an editor and digital marketer and teaches creative writing both online and in his home city of Liverpool.
