THE LAST MEMORY

By Alan Stockdill

“How can I go to heaven if I don’t know who I am?” says Ernest to his daughter Lynne when he’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. But he also has a plan: to leave a vital imprint of who he is. Lynne is to be the keeper of his memory, the guardian of their past.

Join them on their journey; share their hopes, fears, smiles, strength and tears.

Arrive with them as they seize the last memory and a carpe diem hope.

This powerful one-act play is inspired by a real-life situation with genuine stories and experiences.

The performance will be followed by an interval then an optional Q & A session with the writer/director and actors.

“The actors dealt with the difficult subject of dementia tenderly and compassionately, picking out the humour, the positives, the memories and the ‘carpe diem’ moments in a beautiful, truly touching way…”

“One of the most moving and inspirational pieces of theatre I've ever experienced…”

“Shows the sheer love a daughter has for her ‘Daddy who is struggling to remain with his beloved family…”

“Brilliant. There was not a dry eye in the house…”

TALKING STOCK PRODUCTIONS was formed in Spring 2013 by Alan Stockdill and Catherine Pasek. Their mission is to produce compelling theatre with a loving heart and a loud voice. Since then they have toured many productions which have had consistently good reviews. They describe themselves as a philanthropic theatre company with a keen social conscience as they have a continuing commitment to raise funds for local branches of charities through their work.

Over the past six years they have raised over £27,000, benefiting Alzheimer’s Society, Childline, NSPCC, Overgate Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Dementia UK, The Royal British Legion, Age UK, Bradford Cathedral Artspace, Manorlands Hospice. Ravenscliffe High School, Dementia UK, Sporting Memories Network, St John’s Hospice, Dogs for Good and Bloodwise. They have helped fund various Memory Cafés in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and the Dementia Friends groups in Ilkley, Bingley, Keighley and Hebden Bridge. They have also won awards at various drama Festivals and Fringes.

The company has recently been employed by the NHS Leadership Academy and various NHS trusts to perform ‘THE LAST MEMORY’ as a training and awareness-raising exercise for clinical, care and office staff and chief executives. They have also done work for the Leeds Health & Wellbeing Board.

Keith Royston has been an actor and director for over 50 years and appeared in countless productions, some of his favourites being Juno and the Paycock, Billy Liar and The Dresser. His roles for Talking Stock include Godfrey in Godfrey’s Last Stand, Godfrey’s Last Love and Godfrey’s Last Summer and Tommy in Le Grand Return. Keith was awarded Best Actor for playing the character of Ernest in The Last Memory, at the 2013 Partington Festival.

Catherine Pasek studied drama at the University of London’s Goldsmiths’ College and has played a wide range of characters since, including Grusha in Bertholt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle and Amanda in Noel Coward’s Private Lives. One of Catherine’s most challenging roles was baring all to play the infamous Mrs Robinson in The Graduate. The Last Memory is inspired by the complex tapestry of Catherine’s real-life situation: she lost both her parents to dementia in the summer of 2016 within six weeks of each other.

Alan Stockdill started writing plays relatively late in life and is now a published playwright. He has written nine plays since 2013 all of which have been toured by Talking Stock Productions. He is also an actor and director. Alan won the coveted ‘Best New Writing’ award at the Greater Manchester Fringe in 2015 with his play Le Grand Return. Alan’s plays have been performed by a number of different companies in England, Scotland, the republic of Ireland and France.
