About this event

The screening is a series of tasks that are completed on a computer. You log on with your own ID and password and the results are only seen by you and the adviser running the screening session.

It is not a test and there is no pass or fail. You carry out various tasks to check your strengths and areas that you may have more difficulty with.

You will get the screening results on the same day, once you have finished the screening. The outcome will be discussed with you and the next stage will be explained.

Screenings do not give you a diagnosis of dyslexia or some other Specific Learning Difficulty. They are carried out to find out if you are showing signs of dyslexia. Please note that the results of a dyslexia screening are not enough to receive extra support from the University - a full diagnostic assessment is still required. More on this later.

If your results are borderline the Dyslexia Adviser may decide to run another screening using a different method, this is called DAST – Dyslexia Adult Screening Test . This is a further screening to try and get more detailed results. It will take approximately 1 hour. It involves a discussion to find out where you think your strengths and weaknesses are and then you will complete further tasks, such as spelling and memory exercises. Again, the results will be discussed with you at the end of the appointment.
