Multiple Dates
Free educational virtual tour of Underfall Yard (Key Stage Two)
Event Information
About this Event
In normal times we are pleased to welcome primary schools to allow pupils to explore the fascinating historic, scientific and geographical features of Underfall Yard and Bristol Harbour. Given the current situation we are now leading visits for parents and their children via Zoom. We are not charging for these tours (which are being offered primarily to help pupils, teachers and schools in what has been a difficult year), but as a small charitable trust we greatly appreciate any donations via our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/theunderfallyardtrust
The visit is delivered in real time and considers the history of Underfall Yard and Bristol Harbour, the machines and engineering and science at the yard, boat building and boat repair. It lasts just under an hour and includes the operation of several of our Victorian machines and there is plenty of time for questions and discussion.
While leading virtual tours is rather new for us, we were very pleased with some recent feedback from a Year 6 group whose teacher commented: ‘We had such positive feedback from the children - they thoroughly enjoyed the session and gained so much from it. My colleague would also like to extend her thanks - she too was equally enthusiastic! As you can imagine, they were particularly excited to see behind those locked doors (- there were gasps of excitement!), and they were fascinated to see, and hear about, the sluices, Victorian workshop and pumps/accumulator’.
