Event description

Description

I, Daniel Blake: Winner - Palme d'Or - Cannes Film Festival 2016

Described as ‘blunt, dignified and brutally moving’ by The Guardian, I, Daniel Blake tells the story of a man who has worked all his life, but now due to poor health needs help from the welfare system that he has paid into his whole working life.

An assessment by the authorities deems Daniel fit to work, depsite medical advice to rest and recover, and his maintenance and support allowance is cut. The film highlights the struggles of real people in the welfare system, and the lengths they will go to survive.

We will be screening I, Daniel Blake at 5.45pm (refreshments from 5.15pm) on Thursday 19 October free of charge. If you would like to bring food donations on the evening, these will be split between Leeds Foodbank and St George’s Crypt in Leeds, to help those who are struggling and in need of our help.

We do hope you will join us for this event.
