Overview

An elderly Quechua couple in Bolivia confronts a devastating drought that threatens their traditional way of life.

As part of Our Shared Futures: Climate & Migration Community Film Festival 2025 - we will be showing Utama part of the stories of climate, displacement, resilience, and hope.

The festival is curated and produced by Counterpoints Arts in partnership with Earth Refuge, Climate & Migrant Justice Organising Group, and us at City of Sanctuary UKe

The festival coincides with COP30 in Brazil and Climate & Migrant Justice Day (22 Nov), offering accessible ways for communities across the UK to engage in urgent conversations about climate change, migration, colonialism, and the power of solidarity.

Synopsis: An elderly Quechua couple live a tranquil life in the arid Bolivian highlands. While Virginio takes their small herd of llamas out to graze, Sisa keeps house and walks for miles with other local women to fetch precious water. When an uncommonly long drought threatens everything they know, they must decide whether to stay and maintain their traditional way of life or admit defeat and move in with family members in the city.

Come and watch the film and have an informal discussion on how climate change is affecting the world.
