There's FREE FOOD for everyone. Yes, it's really FREE!
Pop by and help yourself to food you can use or drop off your extra food to share with others. The collection tables will be outside EcoArt, weather permitting, otherwise they'll be inside.
On Fridays you can take a small climate action by sharing in unsold food from your local shops and eateries. Not only does this save you money, it also helps cut your carbon footprint by reducing the use of energy; fuel; water; fertiliser; land and people power, all needed to deliver food to us. It reduces food going to landfill where it decomposes and releases dangerous methane gas into the atmosphere.
- Top 5 most wasted foods in UK are potatoes, bread, milk, bananas and salad
- A third of all food produced globally is thrown away
- Only 7% of food surplus from retail and manufacturing sectors is redistributed
Dont worry, it's safe! The food we distribute is near or past their 'best before' date; (safe to eat but not at it's best), or near its 'use by' date; (the date by which it is safe to be eaten), or it has been overstocked, mislabelled or has damaged packaging. Food that needs to be, is frozen on or before the day of 'use by' and held until Friday.
If you'd like to drop off surplus items from your store cuboard, tins, bottled, dried or packaged goods they should be at least near their 'use by ' or 'best before' date.
