Event description

Description

Come and join us for a FREE walk and talk to learn more about Grass Snakes, and potentially see some in their natural habitat. This is the first talk of 2018 hosted by Hackney's Biodiversity Partnership in partnership with TCV and the Lee Valley Regional Park.

Join Dominic Barringer-Allen (Lee Valley Regional Park Ranger) to learn more about this fantastic creature. As its name suggests, the Grass Snake favours damp areas with long grass, often close to water. Grass Snakes will cover significant distances in search of suitable hibernation sites or feeding areas and may sometimes be found in gardens or parks. A number are known to live around the Waterworks Nature Reserve, which is where this walk takes place.

We will take a look at why the area is an ideal habitat for these charming yet elusive snakes, as well as the methods deployed to monitor them.

Numbers are limited, so PLEASE REGISTER FOR A TICKET IN ADVANCE. Free car parking is available outside the centre. Please wear suitable footwear for walking on uneven ground.
