22 September: mindful lunch break or 29 September: end-of-day pause

We are a local collaborative changing the landscape of mindfulness across Greater Manchester and the Northwest by providing ethical, social, inclusive, and research-based mindfulness, in particular to under-served communities and populations.

Our work aligns with the Our Manchester Strategy 2025-2035, which has a key aim of ‘Improving wellbeing so people live longer in good health.’

Mindfulness provides a set of simple tools that can support you as an individual, the teams you work within, and the communities you serve.

During this brief but useful info session, you are invited to:

  • Find out about our respective mindfulness work and its impact locally
  • Discover how mindfulness could support you or your workforce
  • Learn how it can be beneficial for local communities
  • Take part in a brief mindfulness practice
  • Ask us any questions you may have!

We Are

Christoph Spiessens: Holds an MA in Teaching Mindfulness and is the founder of the Manchester Mindfulness Festival, an annual wellbeing event held in October at the Bridgewater Hall that runs at cost and not for profit. Now in its 5th year, the theme is Increasing Inclusion, bringing together a wealth of leading experts in the field. The programme covers neurodiversity, education, trauma, art, LGBTQIA+, movement, field updates, and more.

Kirsty Galloway: Mental health professional, mindfulness teacher, and neurodivergent founder of Yellow Beacon CIC, bringing mindfulness to under-served groups in Greater Manchester to aid mental health and wellbeing. Our work supports people who have experienced trauma, those living in areas of deprivation, neurodivergent adults, and people with a range of mental health diagnoses.

Dr Kelly Birtwell: Research fellow at the University of Manchester’s Centre for Primary Care & Health Services Research. Kelly is a counsellor, mindfulness teacher and psychologist, and was awarded the RCGP 2025 Outstanding Early Career Researcher award. Her research focuses on mindfulness for under-served communities, including people from areas of deprivation and autistic adults.
