Event description

Description

Join Platform Mcr and GMYN at Longsight Library on 31st October 2017 for basic youth work training.

This training opportunity is aimed at aimed at anyone who works for or volunteers for community organisations such as community arts organisations, youth groups, advocacy groups, faith groups, or proactive residents. Maybe you sometimes work with young people already and want to gain some skills and confidence, or maybe you would like to engage more young people in your activities.

We are particularly keen for volunteers or staff from community groups based in Longsight, Wythenshawe or North Manchester to attend.

The workshop will run from 10am to 2pm. Refreshments will be provided.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Working with young people, youth work values and understanding the needs of young people

  • Building appropriate relationships with young people, managing boundaries, observing safeguarding practices and creating safe spaces.

For anyone who takes part and is inspired to follow this up with a more thorough training course, GMYN is offering a training series at MMU starting in November, which is free to volunteers (more details will be given on the day or please email myrtle.finley@gmyn.co.uk to request more info).

This training is being offered as part of a project to develop the role of libraries as creative & cultural community spaces.
