FREE Lindy Hop Taster Workshop and Dance at Chisenhale Dance Space
Saturday, 4 October 2014 from 17:00 to 19:00 (BST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
An afternoon of Lindy Hop / Swing Dance at Chisenhale Dance Space. The event is part of the FunPalaces weekend 4th-5th October 2014.
Come along and learn the basics of Lindy Hop, followed by an hour of social dancing at the Swing Disco where you can show off your new moves. You don't need to come with a partner, just turn up and let the music take hold of you.
The whole event is FREE, so you only need to bring your smile, some laughter and a pair of comfortable shoes.
Lindy Hop is danced to Big Band Swing music of the 1940's. It has regained popularity in the last couple of decade, and you can dance the Lindy Hop all over the world where communities have grown and grown. In London, the scene is very developed so if this taster class whets your appetite then you are sure to find classes near you.
The Lindy Hop / Swing is the forebear to many of the street-dances we see today including Break-dance and Hip Hop of which film evidence show the links-origins.
Your teacher will be Angela Andrew - one of the leading teachers in the international scene. Angela is renowned for her explosive energy and improvisational skills on the dance floor. She has worked with many of the great masters of Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz Dance and has been fondly described as the "next generation" by veteran jazz dancers. Angela has recently returned from New York where she performed at the world famous Apollo Theater in the show “Swingin’ Frankie’s Way” directed by Chester Whitmore as part of the Frankie100 celebrations.
You can see Angela dancing here as part of the "Classics Club" http://youtu.be/u_-AP8u1R94
