Description

AIM: To establish a framework for co-ordinating Level 3 Maths activities across London

  • Open to All level 3 leads from the 6 London and 3-4 surrounding hubs( Cambridge, Kent, Bucks)

  • All FMSP London Area Co-ordinators, including Sue de Pomerai, London regional manager

  • Andy Tharratt, post 16 specialist at NCETM.

AGENDA:

1) Introductions

2) Review of current areas of expertise and Core activities within each Hub area: this will include a discussion of the work being done by FMSP in each area and how it is co-ordinated with the Hub. Some of the current activities are shown on the annotated map. We particularly need to address how each Hub is coming involved in one or more of the National Projects with a view to achieving balanced provision across London

3) How can we centrally administer our various calendars of Maths Hub events? At present, every Hub has its own calendar and sends out email invitations to its own contacts. This is haphazard, leading to duplication and sometimes over or under-provision of support. A shared Google calendar was set up in April as an experiment, but it needs to be something that is simpler to read such as the calendar on the FMSP website. Ideally it should be searchable by date, location, topic and so on. It will need to be centrally administered, perhaps by FMSP or by one particular Hub.

4) Where are the specific areas of Level 3 need in London and what are those needs? FMSP has some information on this. We need to find a way of sharing this across London so that each Hub can approach identified institutions in each area.

5) What expertise do we have among Maths SLEs across London? Every Teaching School Alliance has a number of accredited SLEs. It would be very helpful to collect information from all the TSAs in London to locate the individuals that may be able to address some of the needs discussed during item (4). That list of Maths SLEs with their particular skills should then be made available in the same way as the centralised calendar.

6) What are the immediate areas of need regarding the new A-level Maths and Further Maths? As teaching of the new A-level begins, this will be a major issue for all those involved in Level 3 support. What are the key aspects that require support and how can we deliver it most effectively schools

7) AOB

8) Next meeting: suggest a review of progress in February 2018
