What to do and say (or not do and say) when our kids have BIG emotions!

About this Event

These are uncertain times for us all but living with a child who is highly sensitive and might find it a challenge to control their feelings brings parenting to a whole new level.

I hate you. I have no friends. I am NOT going to school..You love Sam more than me. I am the only one who can never xx. I am rubbish at maths. Why can’t I have XX – it's not fair. I hate myself. I'm ugly. I'm so fat. No one likes me….

These are BIG emotions from a small person but can have a huge effect on us too. When our kids suffer we suffer and will do anything to make the hurt and sadness go away. But it is often this 'anything' that stops us focusing on what our child really 'needs' not on the behaviour or situation. And the way these deep, big emotions affect us as parents can hijack us as we try to support our kids through these feelings.

At this live webinar we will explore:

  • What our kids deep emotions do to us and how we can come from a place of controlling ourselves by mastering our feelings before supporting our child. Once we have achieved this we are in a much better position to be able to support, listen and understand our child’s big emotions.
  • How to be the solution not the cause!
  • 5 tips on how we can respond to our child in distress (or with anxiety) so they feel heard, understood and supported.
  • How we can support our child to master their own emotions and problem solve (together) what to do instead , rather than going into ‘fixing mode’.

Why we need to deal with our kid’s BIG emotions in a positive and supportive way:

  • We teach our kids that it is OK to feel, but not OK to let those feelings control the way we behave and react to life and people around them.
  • We can help them to 'live' with these big emotions without seeing them as the enemy!
  • It is a huge confidence boost for them to know what to do when upset and that they don’t have to get rid of the feelings but can live with them through learning how to manage them better.

This is for all parents who have kids with BIG emotions!
