As part of Heritage Open Days , this free guided walk lasting up to 2 hours will give you a tour of Staunton Country Park (Leigh Park Gardens), a listed Regency Parkland, which is now an RHS Partner Garden, holding the National collection of Lardizabalaceae.
This plant heritage tour will be led by our lead volunteer for horticulture and ex Park Manager, Tim.
Sir George Staunton and his father, George Leonard, were both seasoned travellers with strong links to China. As keen amateur botanists they introduced many new species to the West and a few of these carry the Staunton name. This 2-hour walk will look at some these fascinating plants along with those brought back by some of the more established botanists of the time such as Robert Fortune and Sir Joseph Banks.
