Free Workshop on Trauma Informed Care
Friday 18 November 2016

Number One Bickerstaffe Square, Talbot Road, Blackpool FY1 3AH (sat nav code is FY1 3AZ)
The Centre for Early Child Development is holding a free two hour Trauma Informed Care workshop designed for staff who come into contact with pregnant women; from those on the front desk to clinicians to administrators. It is followed by a networking opportunity, with refreshments.
National statistics show that approximately one in five women has a history of childhood maltreatment, and issues relating to sexual abuse are particularly pertinent in pregnancy.
This means that pregnancy and birth can sometimes be extremely challenging and often health and social care services are provided with little knowledge of their traumatic experiences.
We are excited to be working alongside Julia Seng PhD Professor of Nursing, Obstetrics, and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan and Dr Elsa Montgomery, Head of Midwifery at Kings College, London, who are experts in this field.
Our workshop will support you to think about what may have happened to these women and provide services in a way that is sensitive to their experiences, enabling them to feel safer.
At the end of the workshop you will have developed the right skills to provide an enhanced service to all members of the local community.
Delegates will receive a toolkit designed to help them in their practice and to cascade the learning to colleagues.
