Freed voices from detention
Wed 10 May 2017, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
Join the Cardiff People of Colour Collective for a discussion on the nature of UK immigration detention centers. Is this immigration detention or mass incarceration and kidnapping?
There have been countless reports around the inhumane conditions people experience whilst detained in one of the UK’s eleven immigration detention centers.
In 2015 alone, more than 32, 200 people were indefinitely detained with very limited freedom of movement within these prisons. These shocking numbers have been increasing year on year.
Join us to hear the voices of those who have been detained, so we can all get an understanding of what an immigration detention center is, how it operates within the context of the UK, the reasons why most people held in detention centers are people of colour, the experiences of people held under these conditions, and what we can do to stop it.
This session will be facilitated by ex-detainees from the Freed voices project.

This event is also an open invitation to join the Cardiff People of Colour Collective, so expect to meet the group.
Refreshments will be provided.
