Event description

Description

Professor Richard Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Engagement and Internationalisation at Newcastle University invites you to join us for the official launch of the Freedom City 2017 programme - a city-wide celebration marking the 50th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. receiving his honorary degree from Newcastle University.

Join us in the newly refurbished King’s Hall where, on 13th November 1967, Dr King received his award and in doing so made what was to be his final public speech outside of the US before his assassination. In a moving address Dr King called for us to join him in the ongoing struggle against war, poverty and racism.

The launch event will include footage from his speech and highlights of the 2017 programme including a performance by children from Christ Church CE Primary School in Shieldfield, Newcastle and music from Crossings - a community group for asylum seekers, refugees and local musicians, united through music.

Please confirm your attendance before Tuesday 1st November. If you have any queries please email info@freedomcity2017.com
