A substance-free sanctuary: A safe space to express, explore, and simply be

Step into a night of creative freedom and embodied joy.

This is your invitation to let go of what weighs you down, reconnect with the wisdom of your body, and rediscover the freedom of moving and creating without judgment.

Your body already knows how to move – it remembers freedom, flow, and expression. When you move consciously, tension melts away, your nervous system restores balance, and you return to a deeper alignment of body, mind, and spirit.

Start the night with a cup of ceremonial cacao from our bar (available at an extra cost) –a heart-opening drink rich in magnesium and antioxidants, known to lift mood, increase energy, and deepen your connection to yourself and the music.

We’ll begin with gentle breathwork and yoga-inspired movement to ground and awaken the body, before flowing into a freeform ecstatic dance journey – no choreography, no expectation, just pure authentic expression.

If you need a pause from dancing, drift into our expressive painting corner which will open at 21:30. With brushes, colours, and paper waiting for you, this is your chance to let your inner world spill onto canvas, giving shape and colour to what words cannot capture.

There will also be a dedicated space to connect off the dancefloor, and an outdoor space to ground on the earth whenever you need fresh air, quiet, or stillness.

We’ll close the night with a soothing integration – helping you land softly, grounded and renewed.

🌀 What to Expect

  • Breathwork and gentle yoga to awaken the body
  • Ecstatic dance journey – no talking, no alcohol, no judgment
  • Expressive painting corner – a creative space to explore what’s moving through you on canvas
  • A dedicated space to connect off the dancefloor
  • Outdoor space to ground barefoot on the earth
  • A calm, grounding integration to settle your system
  • A conscious, heart-led community
  • Optional Extras: A sober café with sweet treats and ceremonial cacao to open the heart and warm the spirit

🔬 The Science of Movement & Art

Ecstatic dance isn’t just fun – it’s profoundly healing.

  • Free, unstructured movement activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering stress hormones and restoring calm.
  • Moving without choreography can bring the brain into a flow state, increasing dopamine and serotonin—neurochemicals linked to joy, connection, and creativity.
  • Somatic psychology shows that when the body guides the movement (instead of the mind), we naturally release tension, rebalance, and strengthen emotional resilience.

And when words aren’t enough – art speaks.

  • Free painting activates the right brain, unlocking intuition, imagination, and emotional processing.
  • Creative expression bypasses the rational mind, allowing unconscious feelings to surface safely.
  • Free art-making has been shown to reduce cortisol, easing stress and supporting wellbeing.

Together, ecstatic dance and expressive painting form a powerful cycle: the body releases, the heart expresses, and the mind integrates – opening you to healing, growth, and freedom

🌿 What to Bring

🧘‍♀️ A yoga mat (we have a limited number to borrow) for opening and closing practices

🧣 A blanket or jumper for comfort during rest and integration

👀 Feeling self-conscious? That’s completely normal – especially if this is your first sober dance!

👣 No dance or art experience needed – just bring your body, your breath, and an open heart.

Leave lighter. Move freer. Express deeper. Return to yourself

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to dance?

Not at all! This is a freeform, judgment-free space. There are no steps to learn, no right or wrong – just move in a way that feels true for you.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely. Many people do! This is a warm, welcoming space – you’ll be held in community from the moment you arrive.

What time should I arrive?

Doors open 18:30 — settle in with a sober drink or cacao before we begin at 19:00.

What should I bring?

Please bring: A yoga mat (for the opening and closing practices), comfy clothes you can move freely in, anything else that helps you feel grounded (e.g. cushion, blanket)

What if I arrive after 19:00?

⏰ Please aim to join by 19:00 - the opening circle is key to grounding, connecting, and gently entering the dance journey together.

Do I have to stay the whole time?

You’re encouraged to experience the full arc of the evening (opening, dance, integration), but of course you're free to step out or rest as needed.

Is this event really substance-free?

Yes – no alcohol, drugs, or mind-altering substances. This is a sober, conscious space to support deep embodiment, emotional clarity, and real connection. A sober space allows everyone to feel safe

Why no alcohol or substances?

✨We’re not just hosting a night - we’re co-creating a new culture. One that thrives on authenticity, connection, and freedom. By choosing a sober, substance-free space, we create the conditions for something rare and powerful: true presence, authentic expression & deeper connection

What if I feel nervous without alcohol?

Totally normal! We begin with grounding practices. Safe vibes, gentle music, and community energy help you relax & open up. Bring/borrow an eye mask for comfort. Many find it more freeing than a night out! ✨

What if I’ve had a drink before arriving?

✨ To keep the space safe, clear, and fully present for everyone, we ask that participants arrive sober. If someone appears under the influence, we may need to ask them to return another time.

What music can I expect?

A rich journey of sound: ethnic & tribal beats, folktronica, downtempo, deep afro house & medicine music. Rhythms to move you beyond words — weaving grounding basslines with soulful melodies to lift, energise & guide your dance. No two journeys are ever the same. ?✨

What is the painting space about?

Our Expressive Painting Corner invites you to play, create, and let colours flow. No rules, no cost - just freedom to express & take home your art.

Will food or drinks be available?

Yes! Our sober bar offers sweet treats & ceremonial cacao — nourishing, heart-opening, and delicious extras.

Parking & Travel

Free parking at Skipton Community Sports Hub, Sandylands. ?Skipton Station is 10 mins by foot - easy to reach by car, train, or on foot.

Is this event for women only?

No – it’s for everyone! Men, your presence is powerful here. Bring your grounded strength and authenticity! This space thrives on balance – and you are an important part of it.
