Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in the number of people reporting to feel anxious and afraid. In 2022/23, an average of 37.1% of women and 29.9% of men reported high levels of anxiety in the UK.Fear and anxiety are natural human emotions however for many people they can come to dominate their lives. In order to find freedom from these emotions we need to understand their origin or root cause.Fear and anxiety are normal protective mechanisms that are learnt in order to keep us safe. Sometimes, however, these reactions become overstimulated leading to dysregulation of the nervous system and the formation of negative limiting beliefs.Usually when confronted with difficult thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations we do whatever it takes to feel better. With traditional Western psychological approaches, such as cognitive behaviour therapy, the aim is to try and make them go away or change them into something more pleasant. Eastern contemplative traditions however take a more radical approach in dealing with painful experiences such as anxiety.Join us on October 11th when we will explore, with the aid of teachings from Eckhart Tolle and others, what fear and anxiety really are and how to find freedom from these debilitating conditions. This will be an experiential afternoon with exercises, tools, techniques, meditations and video teachings. I do hope you can join us.
