Freefest Dance Showcase
Fri 6 May 2016, 19:30 – 21:30 BST
We hope you’ll be able to stay in your seat during this swinging Dance Showcase evening, with performances by: LSU Salsa, Luff Bhangra, LSU Rawkus Streetdance, Pole Fitness, LSU Break Dance and Loughborough Belly Dancing Society.
LSU Salsa: this performance team placed 2nd in the Latin category at the recent LSU Dance Competition and will be showing off their salsa skills tonight.
They’re a society that provides fun, relaxed and friendly salsa lessons to dancers of all experience levels. The society has its own Salsa Performance Team which performs and competes very successfully at demonstrations and events throughout the year, including Keele University Christmas Salsa Competition and Birmingham University's Valentine’s Day Salsa Ball and Congress.
Luff Bhangra: adding an innovative, high energy performance to this showcase, which will make you believe you are in the heart of Punjab, North India during the harvest season!
Luff Bhangra was founded in 2014 with the aim to bring greater awareness of the Punjabi culture and Bhangra dance to the students of Loughborough. Quickly gaining popularity, the Luff Bhangra team was established and made their competitive debut at Capital Bhangra 2015.
Captains Jessica and Dilraj have come together to lead and train a team of mostly beginners to showcase their skills. Inspired by the likes of Nachda Sansaar Bhangra Club, Lok Nach Bhangra Punjabian Da and Ankhile Putt Punjab De, Luff Bhangra hope to leave the crowd impressed by a very impactful and energetic performance! - They don’t like Bhangra, they Luff it!
LSU Rawkus Streetdance: these people know how to get their groove on and love to freestyle. Especially for this night they have prepared some amazing choreographies in hiphop, house and popping style.
The society meets up three times a week to work on their grooves and basics as well learn a small choreo to help with their freestyling. They work on different styles within Streetdance and will be showcasing some hiphop, house and popping styles for Freefest.
Pole Fitness: their training focusses on building strength, flexibility and flow so they can create mindblowing routines, which they’d love to show you tonight.
Pole Fitness is a friendly and open society and welcomes anybody who shares their passion. Every member of Pole Fitness is very unique with just one simple thing in common – they all love to pole!
LSU Break Dance: get ready for some fierce moves as this society brings you both group and solo performances that will leave your head spinning.
LSU Break Dance is a chilled out, laid back society with an all-inclusive policy. As a very racially diverse group they enjoy meeting and dancing with people from other cultures. And while training to master very difficult moves and sets can be very tiring, they have a lot of fun as well since all members are best friends within the society. Interested to join? You don't have to have ever danced to learn to break dance and your first session is always free!
Loughborough Belly Dancing Society is lucky to have a nationally renowned teacher, who brings out the best in all the members and that shows in their performance!
The Belly Dancing Society is a fun and vibrant group who welcome all abilities to have fun learning a unique dance style. They strive to build the confidence of members through showcases and socials, and gain skills in the art of belly dance.
This event is part of Freefest 2016, a weeklong festival celebrating student creativity, organised by LU Arts in collaboration with Loughborough Students’ Union. From Bank Holiday Monday 2 May till Sunday 8 May a fantastic line-up of free events is taking place, so please have a look at the full programme.
